Up and Vanished is an investigative podcast that explores the unsolved disappearance of Georgia Beauty Queen and High School teacher Tara Grinstead, an 11-year old cold case that is the largest case in Georgia’s history. Follow along as the host Payne Lindsey, a documentarian turned amateur investigator, examines old case evidence, re-interviews persons of interest, and uncovers new leads while guiding listeners through his real time investigation.
So far I’m halfway through Episode 4 and I’m HOOKED. Up and Vanished is similar to Serial, Making a Murderer, and The Jinx. Here is some background on the Serial podcast if you are unaware of it, Payne (going as Payne rather than Lindsey because his first name is unique) models his podcast similarly to how Sara Koenig did with Serial.
I was a diehard fan of the first season of Serial where the host Sara Koenig detailed the case of Adnan Syed who was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend Min Lee in 1999 in Baltimore, Maryland. Koenig interviewed friends of Adnan, talked about details of the case, alibis, reviewed story-lines discussing that fateful day, and all information and tips Koenig and her team were able to get their hands on.
If you haven’t listened yet, do it, it’s a must. Second season was about Sergeant Bergdahl, an American Army soldier who deserted his base, was captured by the Taliban, and was rescued by American Forces after years of captivity during a hostage exchange in 2015. Honestly it makes my blood boil even thinking about it knowing the significant details and the back story of it all. If you’re interested in it, by all means listen, but the real Season 1 is the real deal.
I’m declaring this a MUST-LISTEN.
At this point I don’t want to spoil anything. There are 9 main episodes so far lasting up to about 30 minutes with smaller Case Evidence episodes sprinkled in between that are 10 minutes or so. I have theories of my own, but I haven’t listened to all the episodes yet. We can talk about it in the comments below. Will Update when all episodes are out…
Was it the boyfriend? Did she commit suicide? Did she vanish to start a new life? Was it a cover-up by the police department?
